The car everyone wants.. well I would not mind one in a semi original state. I see it handling badly and the suspension being too soft to be bearable. Sending the back end beyond the front and the bumper scraping on the floor. Following that I navigate a collection of San Francisco Jumps alerting the police as you fly through the air blasting out some funky wa wa. So needless to say the study is unfinished...

My redesign of some of the units from the first rts series of games Hertzog (in particular Hetzog Zewi). I was blown away by how complex and well made this game was considering its age. I plan to do a whole series as part of a re-design, inspired by PSG7's whimsical approach to his memories of old games. Im still debating in my head why I would care to delve into such an amazing game anyway, it would be difficult to add anything that would make the game any better.

This drawing is by Steven Linnell, my friends father. He had some spare time on his hands, heard i was working mostly with colour now so gave me this to colour. I buggared it up. It is really hard to get the lines working with the colour underneath. Ill finish it soon... ish.

You can get it from anywhere they say. Its funny really because I look at a lot of art and im not inspired. So, I saw this documentary on Photek and it hit me. We are given a guided tour of his crack den of a studio and a little insight into what he does. To me Photek was charging forward into the future creating something fresh and exciting. Plus a lot of artists send me to sleep when they talk or just sound too preachy.

Two wip's for ya... contemplating where to go with these. Having fun though, it has been a while since I just went for it and started painting.

The game

I have started making a game after talking with my friends about a few ideas. The idea at the start was simple. A platforming tetris game, where instead of destroying rows of blocks in some abstract way, the game is about climbing a constructed array of blocks to reach the goal at the top. I picture a puzzle mode where there are definate goals to complete and an endless mode where the playing area will fill with water or lava from the bottom, giving the game a sense of urgency. I would say (at the moment) it is a mix of Tetris, Rainbow Islands and possibly nebulus for the pseudo 3d tower effect (if i can pull it off).

I can see parts of this working and parts not at the moment. Getting the right balance between action and puzzle will be crutial. All part of the fun :)

I always liked the idea of Roguelike games but never found them instantly playable.The most impressive of these is possibly Dwarf Fortress where a whole randomly generated world is created for you. You pick a location and proceed to build a Dwarf Fortess. The real substance comes from successive playthroughs in the same world, where the remains of the last fortess you constructed can be found. The history that was created in this world means a narrative can emerge from the players own previous playthroughs. The gameplay creates the story.

With Spelunky Derek Yu has created a Rougelike platformer. The levels are randomly generated with a certain amount of reoccuring items. the goals are simple, get to the end of the level whilst collecting as much gold as possible. In my oppinion it is an extrememly successful merge of the two genres and i would love to see how it could apply to other types of games. If it was possible to make the game more persistent so dead bodies of previous playthroughs could be seen. It would be my preference to share my world with friends for a while letting them add to a history that i previously added to. I remember playing Nethack browsing through the massive list of commands and being excited by being able to carve messages into the floor with an item of your choice. Imagine facing a puzzle that a previous player in that world has encountered he wrote a message that would either help the next player figure out the puzzle or possibly give a red herring leading to death.
